What are the ideal snorkeling conditions in St. Lucia?

There’s no bad time to go snorkeling in Saint Lucia, but some months offer more ideal conditions than others.

December-May are the optimal months for snorkeling because it’s when Saint Lucia experiences the lowest average rainfall and has the clearest waters. More specifically, avid snorkelers suggest that February, March and April are the best time to visit.

With that being said, the remaining months of the year, although a little rainier, still offer beautiful snorkeling conditions. Our island’s weather is very consistent year round, with only slight fluctuations in rainfall and temperature.

Does Saint Lucia have a reef?

Most of Saint Lucia’s border is lined with coral reefs, with about 44 percent of it being classified as protected. There are many vibrant and beautiful reefs along our coast. But many snorkelers agree that Anse Chastanet and Anse Mamin offer some of the best snorkeling on the island.

This is because these locations are easily accessible from the shore and are located in areas under marine preservation where fishing is controlled. This means there is a greater abundance of aquatic life for snorkelers to experience.

Does Saint Lucia have clear waters?

Saint Lucia has beautifully clear waters for snorkeling. What causes the recognizable clear blue waters you might be thinking of is the reflection of the blue sky against the vibrant white sand beaches.

Many of the beaches bordering Saint Lucia are white sand. However, because the island is home to a volcano, there are some darker volcanic beaches that might not appear to be as crystal clear as you might be envisioning.

Another factor that affects water clarity is rain. February, March and April have the lowest average rainfall during the year, which is when you are likely to experience the clearest waters.

How much does it cost to snorkel in Saint Lucia?

The cost of snorkeling in Saint Lucia depends on the tour company you choose and the type of package you select. Generally, snorkeling tours range in price from $50-$150 USD per person depending on the length and features you are looking for.

Some companies offer snorkeling equipment rentals for a few hours while others offer a full-day catamaran sightseeing cruise with lunch and snorkeling that will cost more.
